THE COLORADO INDIANS .
The trouble among the Colorado Indians
Continues. The Mohaves and Yavapais in a
recent fight with the Pah—Utes and
Chemehuevis were defeated with a loss of
twenty—f i ve killed -
The tribes are
equally worthless and indolent, and if
there is no good prospect of getting
them up on reservations it may be as
well for them to wipe each other out. We
trust the new agent, Mr- Fudge, will do
something to regulate these redskins or
abandon them entirely . The method of
dealing with them hitherto has been
calculated to excite their distrust and
enmity rather than otherwise. Naturally
lazy and shiftless they are, we know, a
difficult people to civilize and make
productive , but we are inclined to
believe that with systematic care, kept
upon reservations, and taught habits of
industry, they may be made an advantage
rather then an encumbrance to the
whites. At present they are a first—
class nuisance.
