August 21st, 1869
From Camp Date Creek.- Monday last, we
received a call from Sergeant Wortman, of
Co. B 8th Cavalry, who had just arrived
here on a visit, and learned from him
that private Howell, of Co. C. 8th
Cavalry, the man who was wounded by
Indians in the McCleave fight, died
recently. His funeral was attended by the
military and citizens of the post.
Deceased is said to have been a good and
brave soldier The health of the post
was good.
