The Arizona Miner Prescott, Arizona Territory August 10th, 1867 INDIANS. A few days after the raid upon A.G. Dunn’s herd (Prescott) referred to in our last, the Indians came again, and took of the remainder of the horses. They made an attempt to get the cows, but were not successful. About the same time they stole three horses from the Sterling mill, and some cows from Skull Valley. They also appeared on Lynx Creek, and wounded Mr. Pearson. On Saturday last, the red devils killed at Willow Spring, near Bell’s Calion, two soldiers coming with a message from the comm andant at Camp McPherson to Gen. Gregg. Their bodies were found stripped, and the murderers secured two animals and two guns.. Walnut Grove has been visited by the savages, and numerous animals taken, Mr. Burger losing four. Early in the week two soldiers belonging to the Camp just established by Lieut. Converse, on Big Bug Creek, five miles below the mill, were shot near the mill, one it is feared, fatally. A Sergeant accompanying the mail was killed at the Willows on the Mohave road.

The Arizona Miner Prescott, Arizona Territory May 31st, 1873 The road through Bell’s Canyon is greatly in need of repair, and this county, the freighters, stage men, etc., would do well to repair it. It is a terrible piece of road.

The Arizona Miner Prescott, Arizona Territory May 24th, 1873 Bell’s Canyon. After good Mrs. Beach had looked through the “way—pocket” for letters and papers, the team started, the wheels rolled on until, in a short time, we were in that detested place— Bell’s Canyon- where at various times, Indians have murdered some 10 or 12 men, beside having attacked and wounded more than a score of others. It was here that they mur— dered good Indian Superintendent Leihy and his clerk, Mr. Henry Evarts. Here too, fell Bell and Sage, two men who had always befriended the Indians. And we regret not being able to state that here, too, fell Vincent Colyer. It is a narrow gorge through a rough granite mountain. The road, for several miles, is rough and dangerous; more wagons have been wrecked in it than in any other canyon in the Territory, and when we know that one quarter of the money that has been expanded in repairing said wagons would make a good road through it, we cannot help thinking that our freighters have acted very sensibly.

The Arizona Miner Prescott, Arizona Territory November 19th, 1870 Local Intelligence - Nice Fight. A Party of Pimas Kill 13 Apache—Mohaves . It affords us intense pleasure to be able to state that the party of Pima Indians that left Prescott, a short time ago, succeeded in killing thirteen Apache—Mohaves, and wounding several others . But, we regret to have to state that our Pima friends lost two of their number, and had five others wounded. The particulars of this, to us, pleasant affair, are about as follows: Early Monday morning last, as the Pimas were traveling through Bell 's Canyon, on their way to Camp Date Creek, they discovered fresh Apache tracks going northward, followed them, and soon into which they sailed, with the after struck a rancher ia , foregoing result. It is said they peeled the scalps from the heads of the dead devils, and took them with them. Thanks, brave the treacherous , Pimas , for this victory over our common foe , — bloodthirsty Apache. This makes nearly thirty Apaches the Pimas have killed inside the past two months .

The Arizona Miner Prescott r Ari zona Territory June 13th, 1868 LOCAL NEWS. The red—skins paid a HORSES STOLEN - visit to Kirkland Valley last week, and gobbled up four horses belonging to Wm. Gilkison; two, of Moses Langley's and one belonging to another man. They were pur— sued by a detachment of mounted Infantry , from Camp McPherson , and overtaken some— where near Bell ' s Canon- It seems that the rascals after stealing the horses , went south a considerable distance, and then turned back towards the valley. In traveling along on the trail , and when near some big rocks , the troops were fired into by the Indians , when two animals were killed. The Indians then, we believe, ran off and were pursued by the troops , who, once more , came upon them while they were roasting one of the stolen horses. The Indians, on seeing the troops, got up and traveled towards this and were tracked to Miller ' s town , Valley , about one mile from Prescott . The troops started Tuesday morning on a ten day' s scout after the Indians
