The Arizona Miner
Prescott, Arizona Territory
July 6th, 1872
Camp Date Creek.
Major C.H. Veil got back from Camp Date Creek
Monday last, and informed us that some 400 or
500 Indians were in there, living peaceably,
upon Government rations.
Capt. Dwyer and a part of his company E, of
the Fifth Cavalry, were out on a scout.
Capt. Mason had sent Lieutenant Michier and
some men of company K in to the post after
provisions. It was said that the Captain had
found Indians.
Wm. Gilson and Lieutenant Ebstein came in
here from Date Creek on Monday, Gilson thinks
most of the Apaches at the post mean peace,
at least for the present. Hope so.
