A Bloody Night In Prescott.
The night
of Monday, September 20th, 1869, was the
bloodiest night in the annals of this
town .
Two soldiers ,
Sergeant Patrick
McGovern
, of Co. B, 8th Cavalry, and
Private Thomas Donahue, of Co. F, 12th
Infantry, were shot dead, and another ,
Private George Nunes ,
co.
12th
Infantry, was severely stabbed, and is
now in a critical condition. McGovern
was, it is said, murdered in the Diana
Saloon ,
at about four o 'cl ock in the
morning, by one Jos.
Johnson,
a d is—
charged soldier. Private Harry Langham ,
of Co. F,
12th Infantry, has,
we are
informed ,
been convicted of stabbing
Nunes ,
and is suspicioned of shooting
Donahue .
He is now in irons at Fort
Whipple .
Wm
Collins,
( another d is—
charged soldier), was mixed up in the
row in which McGovern lost his life, and
he and Johnson are now at large. Troops
are out searching for them, and it is
the prayer of this entire community that
they will be killed or captured.
