10189. The Arizona Miner, Prescott, Arizona Territory, August 28th, 1869, Complaint About Postal Matters.

The Arizona Miner Prescott, Arizona Territory August 28th, 1869 Complaint About Postal Matters. J . Hodnett of Company I , 14th U.S. Infantry, writing from Camp Date Creek r in this County, under date of August 24th, says: "We are debarred from all intercourse with the outside world, in this secluded quarter of the globe , with nothing to change the dreary monotony of camp life, except the arrival of a weekly mail, an event which is awaited with breathless anxiety by every man , woman and child in camp. Now, when our friends take the trouble to send us papers, and we, ourselves, sacrifice some of our pay (which is earned at the momentary risk of our lives) , in subscribing for them, it is rather provoking to be compelled to say that not one—third of them ever reach their destination. We have long since arrived at the conclusion that our papers are purloined by somebody connected with the mail , on the route from San Francisco, and, in truth, whoever does so must have a heart of adamant, for, Heaven knows, our privations are numerous enough without adding this to the catalogue. If this should meet the eye of the District Commander, we earnestly pray he will take some action in the matter. "
