The Arizona Miner
Prescott, Arizona Territory
October 21st, 1871
Local Intelligence.
Change of Tactics: Lieutenant Simpson
and Geo. Kimball arrived from Camp Date
Creek on Tuesday. From a conversation we
had with these gentlemen we infer that
the Apache-Mohaves at that post will,
hereafter, conduct their raids upon the
settlers somewhat after the manner that
Cotton Mather chose to capture Wm. Penn
and his followers: “To serve ye God,
capture them slylye.” But as the ApacheM
ohaves have no God to serve they are
determined, for their own sake, to do
their stealing “slylye” and avoid that
Henry—rifle controversy which seems to
be the glory of the white man.
