Arizona Citizen
Tucson, Pima County, A.T.
Saturday, September 9th, 1871
DIED.
In Arizona City, August 28th, 1871 Hon. Marcus D. Dobbins.
(Communicated.)———It has become my painful duty to announce
the death of our esteemed friend Colonel M.D. Dobbins,
District Attorney of Yuma County. He died last night from
congestion, and his funeral takes place this afternoon. To
the intense heat of the weather is attributed his sudden
death.
We shall miss him in every respect— not only as an efficient
officer, but as the genially disposed gentleman upon all
occasions. I am not well acquainted with his record, but it
is known that he was the Colonel of a regiment of
volunteers, mostly organized by himself in California during
the Southern rebellion. Subsequently he was an active
prospector in this Territory, and has given to its benefit
his intelligent exertion. He filled with marked distinction
the chair of the House of Representatives of the late
Arizona Legislative Assembly. He also filled minor positions
in the public service, and always with comprehensive
intelligence and general satisfaction. His loss is heartily
deplored, knowing how difficult it is to retain amongst us
the character of the talent best suited to the condition of
the country. He was eminent in this respect and carried with
him to the unknown future the kindness of these left behind
who had the opportunity of appreciating how much of a man he
was. C.H.B.
