The Arizona Miner
Prescott, Arizona Territory
May 13th, 1871
Military News.
It is the intention of Col. Stoneman to
keep mounted troops constantly scouting
on the Apache line between McDowell and
Verde, and between Verde and Hualpai,
and in case the plan of defense is
followed up strictly, the Apaches will
have to look sharp, when they break
through the lines, to raid upon us, else
the troops will run afoul of, and chast
ise them. It may be, that they will
spend the summer west of us (as they are
as much at home one place as another),
and peg away at us from that side. In
which case, the cavalry men at Camp Date
Creek, might have a chance to exercise
themselves and their fat horses.
