10013. Los Angeles Tri-City News, Los Angeles, California, Saturday, May 20th, 1865. More Murders by Apaches.

Los Angeles Tri—City News Los Angeles, California Saturday, May 20th, 1865 More Murders by Apaches From a private letter received by Mr. W. G. Still, Postmaster of this city, on Thursday last, from Mr. S. J. Poston, dated La Paz, May 11th, we learn that Mr. Charles O. Cunningham ( formerly of the Monte) of La Paz was shot and instantly killed on the 3rd instant by Indians at Willow Springs, about forty miles Richard Bell and this side of Prescott. Cornelius Sage were killed the same day on the route, within a few miles of the same place. There are three men missing, supposed to have been killed. The Indians stole about thirty head of mules from the Date Creek Ranch. Other accounts say that eleven bodies were discovered between La Paz and Prescott ; that the murdered men were scalped with the single exception of Cunningham, whose cloth— ing , pistol , were untouched. The etc. , Indians , it is supposed, did not intend to kill Mr. Cunningham. The whites were shot from ambuscade. Carlton s war of extermin— ation does not seem to be progressing against these murderous wretches. It is to be hoped that Gen. Mason will prosecute a vigorous war of extermination against these cowardly Apaches .
