10073. The Arizona Miner, Prescott, Arizona Territory, May 18th, 1867. Camp McPherson.

The Arizona Miner Prescott, Arizona Territory May 18th, 1867 Camp McPherson. Gen. Gregg has, we think, made a hit in locating this new post at the Willow Spring, three miles from Bell 's Caƶon, upon the Wickenburg, Date Creek and La Paz road. The Cafion is notoriously the worst Indian hole in this part of Arizona, and it has long been the terror of travelers. The post at Date Creek and that at Skull Valley were not near enough to be of service , and moreover they were never strong. McPherson will have two companies, and so much scouting will be done from it that the whole La Paz road will soon be made safe. A detachment of men will, we hear, be left at Skull Valley for the protection of the settlers there. This is well, for some of our best farms and farmers are in that valley, from which, we beg to remind the people both of Prescott and La Paz, that it is of the first consequence there should be a direct road to Prescott. The plan of going all the way round by Mint Valley some 15 to 20 miles out of the way, should be followed no longer.
