Head Qrs. Sub District of Prescott Camp Whipple, A. T. January 21st, 1868 To R.M. O'Reilly Asst. Surgeon U.S.A. Sir: Bvt. Brig. Gen. Two (2) tanks of forty ( 40) Galls. each for the men and one of forty (40) Galls. for the Officers with the necessary troughs will with proper care and attention it seems to me answer every purpose. The A. Q -M. is authorized to construct the number above specified and in accordance with the enclosed diagram a copy of which you will please furnish him with request that they be completed with the least possible delay. You will report at once to these Head Qrs. whether they the tanks as above allowed is in your opinion sufficient in number to furnish the Post a full supply of good water, also any unnecessary delay in their com— pletion You will also make a request on the Commanding Officer to pre— pare the necessary amount of Charcoal from the Willows growing in your vicinity to be used as a purifier. Should there however be other varieties of wood accessible which in your judgement would make better Charcoal than that prepared from the Willows you are authorized to use the same.
