The Arizona Miner
Prescott, Arizona Territory
June 28th, 1873
We learn that Captain Burns, commanding
at Camp Date Creek, took 30 loaded guns
from Tumaspie’s band of Indians, while
they were at his post, en-route to the
Verde. The Indians gave up their guns
reluctantly, when they saw themselves
surrounded by Americans and Wallapai
soldiers. Old Tumaspie tried to run
away, but seeing that he could not make
it, made the best of what he thought a
dangerous necessity. Some of the Date
Creek’s are still out.
